Ayres, Rance and Bilbey put result beyond doubt

CHESHAM'S cricketers opened their Chess Valley Sunday League season with a comprehensive 150 run win at London Colney.

Adam Bilbey (44) and Jason Rance (48) took the attack to the bowlers, putting on 84 for the second wicket before captain Ollie Turner (36) and Steve Ayres (53) took the score on to 198.

The rest of the innings fell away, but 223 was always likely to be competitive on a wearing surface.

Colney's hopes of making inroads were soon dented as Chesham bowlers reduced them to 32-5, with Jason Rance (1-22) and Tom Turner (4-8) bowling the top five. Tidy work behind the stumps by Simon Veys and more good bowling from Bilbey and Ayres mopped up the tail.
