AMERSHAM & Chiltern's battling weekend display ran fourth-paced Barnstaple close and landed them an invaluable bonus point, even if they could not quite spring a shock win.
Chiltern were buoyed by a good turn out of away fans who braved the longest journey of the season - making their presence felt in a crowd of 535 people in Devon - but they saw their side slump to a narrow 8-5 defeat.
Southern Counties North leaders Beaconsfield were given a scare at Wallingford, who belied their lowly status to hold the lead well into the last quarter against the league leaders but they came through to win 25-19.
