Chesham's rugby youngsters shine

CHESHAM Rugby Club U10s shrugged off a difficult start to the season to win two out of three games in a three-club event involving Old Verulamians from St Albans and Farnham Common side Drifters.

Chesham significantly improved both their tackling and rucking from earlier matches in the season and the new players continue to grow in confidence and are keen to get involved.

The first game against the OV first team was tight, with Chesham shading it 3-2 thanks to a try from Rhys James.

OVs took the lead, but Daniel Khan drew Chesham level at half-time and, after OVs scored straight from the restart, winger James spotted a loose ball and ran in to level the scores before grabbing his clinching touchdown.

Equally important was his work in defence with Will Gilling to deny OVs a certain try.

Khan was on the scoresheet in the second match against the OV second team, but his jinking run to the line came too late to prevent defeat – 2-1 the final score.

The day ended with another win as a powerful Drifters side was beaten 3-2, thanks to two tries from Sam Forster and one for Khan.

Victory was all the sweeter as Chesham trailed 2-0 early in the second half.
