JANE Morris has scooped an award from rugby’s governing body in recognition for her work with Chesham’s youth system.
Morris, who works with the minis and juniors section of the Chesham club, has been named as one of the top 100 volunteers by the Rugby Football Union.
The minis are thriving under Morris, with more than 500 players, coaches and parents attending the recent awards ceremony, and Chesham being the only club able to field sides in all groups of a minirugby festival.
“I was extremely surprised, but honoured, when I found out”, said Morris.
“It is great to be a member of Chesham Rugby Club. Helping out is just part of the culture, what I do is just a small element.”
Morris is still keen to increase the club’s development further with the use of recruitment drives, and will be looking to continue the success of the youth section, which has produced many great players, including England women U20s star Lauren Cattell.
“As well as looking for new players in all age groups, we are trying to reinvigorate our girls section,” said Morris.
“Part of this will be providing local schools with coaching and having a greater link with our women’s team.
“There will be a clear development pathway for all players.”
