BEACONSFIELD SYCOB boss Byron Walton is looking up rather than down in the Evo-Stick Division One Central this season.
The Rams finished rock bottom last season and only avoided the drop after a league reshuffle.
But new boss Walton, who stepped up from the number two role last season, is expecting SYCOB to be more competitive this season.
He said: “We are looking to come in the top half of the table and you will have the likes of St Neots Town and Slough Town who will be hard to compete with but there will be quite a few teams who will be a much of a muchness and we need to try and come out at the top of that group."
The Rams are currently in transition after a summer of upheaval the whole squad has been revamped with only two players remaining in the group from last season’s disappointment.
Byron is running the rule over teenage striker David Moore, who netted in their weekend pre-season win over Binfield on Saturday, and he is just one of a number of players trying to earn a deal at Holloways Park.
The forward, who has recently been released from Wycombe Wanderers, has looked in good shape in pre-season so far and Walton is likely to have a look at him again when they travel to Flackwell Heath this weekend.
He said: “David did well, he is a young kid, only 19, lives locally, was released from Wycombe and hopefully we can keep him hanging around, if he’s going to be good enough week in and week out we will have to wait.”
“Out of who played at the weekend, probably eight of them will be good enough for the squad for the start of the season. We have a few more to come in that might make the grade too, it’s just a matter of getting the squad settled down now in preparation for the first league game.”
