Rochdale 4-1 Wycombe Wanderers
STUART Lewis gave Wycombe Wanderers a dream start but it turned into a nightmare for the Blues in Rochdale.
The midfielder’s goal of the season gave the visitors an early lead before a George Donnelly brace, one from Ian Henderson and an own goal made it a day to forget for Wycombe fans.
Wanderers went into the match in good form after putting back-to-back wins on the board and player-boss Gareth Ainsworth made just one change to the side that beat Fleetwood last weekend, Joel Grant returning to the team after injury.
Bobby Grant came close to opening the scoring with a curling free-kick that crashed against the underside of the bar, Wanderers capitalising on their turn of good fortune by taking the lead through Lewis on 16 minutes.
It sent the travelling fans into raptures, however their joy was short-lived as just three minutes later the Blues defence failed to clear their lines from a free-kick and Henderson reacted quickly to grab the equaliser.
Rochdale pushed hard for their second and it came moments after the interval as Andrew Tutte fizzed in a corner that somehow found its way into the net via a deflection off Michael Harriman.
The woodwork again came to the away side’s rescue on 56 minutes, but the Dale did add a third 12 minutes from time as Henderson led a flowing counter-attack on the halfway line and set up Donnelly for a simple finish.
Five minutes later and Rochdale wrapped the points with a fourth, Donnelly completing an individual double with a header past Jordan Archer from Michael Rose’s deep delivery.
