'I can do job for first-team', says McClure

Matt McClure

MATT McClure was delighted to net his first goals for Wycombe at Adams Park and hopes his hat-trick will cement a starting spot on Saturday.

The 20-year-old continued his return from a horrific broken ankle with a treble in their Berks & Bucks semi-final clash with Hungerford on Tuesday night with boss Gary Waddock watching on.

The striker is yet to net a professional goal for Wanderers but is a confident young man and feels he can repeat the feat of Fulham loanee Marcello Trotta if given a run in the side.

The Italian scored eight goals in eight games before returning to the Premier League side and McClure is hoping he can provide a similar spark to lift Wycombe out of their relegation doom.

“They are my first goals at Adams Park which is no nice so, hopefully, there is more to come on Saturday and for the rest of the season,” he said.

“I am still not 100 per cent match sharp and have been dragging a few shots so it is nice to get a bit of confidence ahead of the weekend.

“”I hope so and I try to do that everytime I go out on the training pitch and on the pitch and, hopefully, I have caught his attention tonight.

“It is just a case of getting my first one and then they will keep flowing in. I think I could do a job and feel confident that if I start a game then I feel I can bag a goal. Hopefully, I can be the English Trotta."
