Lewis backed to reclaim Blues spot

MIDFIELDER Stuart Lewis has been backed to reclaim his spot in the Wycombe starting line-up.

The 24-year-old has been a constant in the Wanderers engine room since joining on loan from Dagenham last season and then signing a permanent deal.

But Lewis found himself in an unfamiliar position on the bench for the home win against Tranmere yesterday.

He made his debut off the bench for Wanderers in November 2010 but has started every other game for Blues – barring injury or suspension.

And boss Gary Waddock said the midfielder, who was struck down with a nasty virus at the start of the season, was in need of a rest.

In many ways, Stuey is unfortunate,” he said. “He had an illness early in the season and he played very early on after that.

He took a whack last week and I wanted to give him a rest because he puts his body on the line every week. He is a very good player and I rate him very highly so he has no worries.”
