Gary Waddock
GARY Waddock has challenged his players to show Tranmere their true ability tomorrow.
Wanderers put in a woeful display in their 2-0 defeat at Prenton Park back in September and have only won five games since to find themselves at the foot of League One.
But Tranmere, seven points clear of danger, are on a miserable run and have only won four league games themselves since beating Wycombe.
They travel to a freezing Adams Park on Saturday in another crunch relegation clash for Gary Waddock's Blues side.
And the Wycombe chief wants his side to show the same ability to handle the pressure as they did in their recent home wins over Exeter, Chesterfield and Rochdale.
“It is a big game,” said Waddock. “After the Brentford display there needs to be reaction yet again. We have to make sure we go into games with belief.
“The players coped with pressure last year and they have done it again this year. We didn't perform up at Tranmere and that was another grey day.
“We need to show them that we are a decent outfit. They have brought in some players and we have brought in some players and we are ready to go.”
One of the players set for a Blues debut is on-loan Watford striker Matt Whichelow who penned a one-month deal on deadline day.
The 20-year-old has struggled with injury this year after breaking into the Hornets' first-team last season and Waddock is excited to see him in action.
“Whichelow is a young player who Watford rate highly and he will bring us something different,” he said. “He is quick, has good movement and will play on the shoulder.”
Wanderers have been forced to train on indoor 3G pitches with their Booker training ground frozen in the sub-zero conditions.
But under-soil heating at Adams Park has been on since Wednesday and the club are confident the game will not fall foul of the weather.
