A CAMPAIGN to tackle vehicle crime and theft was launched this week.
Buckinghamshire Community Safety Partnership began writing to motorists who left their cars vulnerable to thieves by leaving items of value on show from Monday.
Notes will be taken to record the vehicle's details, along with the time and place it was seen and what was on display.
Owners will then receive a letter through the post advising them their vehicle was left vulnerable and be given appropriate crime prevention advice.
Pocket-sized notepads will be carried around by Chiltern District Council's community safety and civil enforcement officers and Thames Valley Police.
Thames Valley Police crime reduction advisor Mike Levine said: "Most criminals are opportunists. We hope that by encouraging vehicle owners to remove temptation for thieves, this will limit their opportunity to offend."
He added: "Simply hiding items isn't enough. The glove box or under the seat are the first places they will look for your sat-nav."
For more information and advice see www.chiltern.gov.uk/communitysafety or call Thames Valley Police's non-emergency number 08458 505 505 and ask to speak to a crime reduction officer.
