Bucks the best GCSE 'shire'

SCHOOLS in the Bucks have continued up their impressive record of GCSE results according to official figures released this month.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families published the number of pupils achieving five or more GCSEs with A*-C grades including core subjects English and maths.

Bucks was shown to be the best performing 'shire' county in the entire country with 65 per cent of its pupils earning five or more GCSE qualifications – an increase of 2 per cent from 2008.

This is comparable to the national average of just under 50 per cent.

Beaconsfield High School, Dr Challoner's High School and Dr Challoner's Grammar School, saw an outstanding 100 per cent of its pupils earning five or more GCSEs with Dr Challoner's Grammar in the top 25 per cent of schools nationally.

The Beaconsfield School and The Misbourne saw decreases in its performance numbers with the former dropping by two per cent and the latter dropping by just one per cent.

Marion Clayton, Bucks County Council cabinet member for achievement, learning and skills, said: "Once again, Buckinghamshire schools have achieved outstanding examinations results.

"This is a well deserved recognition of the excellent education that all our schools provide and reflects the dedication and professional commitment of our teaching and school support staff, governors and the support given by parents and carers.

"My warmest congratulations go out to everyone involved."
