THE first case of swine flu in the county has been confirmed.
Bucks Primary Care Trust (PCT) has reported that a boy attending an independent school, believed to be Stowe School, tested positive for the influenza A (H1N1) virus. As a precaution, the school has been closed for a week to prevent it spreading.
In a statement, the PCT said: "Symptoms of influenza A (H1N1) are similar to those of seasonal influenza, usually a feverish illness accompanied by one or more of cough, sore throat, headache and muscle aches.
"Advice for individuals who have flu-like symptoms and have recently returned from swine-flu affected countries, or been with someone who has, is to stay at home, to limit contact with other people and contact your GP or NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
"Do not go into your GP surgery, to a hospital or A&E unit, as you may spread germs."
Bucks PCT and Thames Valley Health Protection Unit said they both have plans in place to deal with the containment of this outbreak.
