I am writing in response to the article on 5th April about the public toilets in Chalfont St Peter. You say they are little used which is not surprising as they are in a terrible state. I use them myself but only when it cannot be avoided. It is an unpleasant experience and I am sure that is how all other users feel. The answer is not to close them but to renovate them.
They are particularly needed by mothers with young children and by older people. Some older people might not be able to travel to the centre of the village knowing that there were no toilet facilities. Two of the three people quoted in the article live very close to the village centre and would therefore be lucky enough never to need to use them themselves.
