REGARDING your recent report on speeding drivers on Holtspur Top Lane: I fully support the installation of speed bumps; as your report states many motorists ignore the electronic sign.
Even those who trigger the electronic sign and do slow down have been speeding along the straight road where many residents have to cross (the zebra crossing being at the other end of this road to the electronic sign).
My son likes to play 'how many cars make the light flash' when walking to school along this road, ie five days a week. I have to say more trigger it than do not. Some of those that have triggered it do not even bother to brake.
I take issue with Valerie Letheren's comments that she has seen drivers slow down.
If they have triggered the sign, they were going too fast in the first place. Speed bumps force drivers to drive more slowly along the whole stretch of road, not just brake practically on the junction of the school.
Speed bumps are needed, from the zebra crossing right down to the current electronic sign. I would also like to add that you take your life in your hands when using the zebra crossing, as an increasing number of drivers do not stop at this either.
