She should stay and fight for us

IT IS certainly very disappointing to find that the new Secretary of State for Transport, Philip Hammond, seems to be continuing the disastrous policies of Lord Adonis and the last Labour government as far as HS2 is concerned.

But it seems foolish and counter-productive to be calling for the resignation of our local MP, Cheryl Gillan, when she has made it clear that she will do all she can to prevent it going through her constituency and carving up the Chilterns.

As she holds a senior position in the cabinet as Secretary of State for Wales, she is better placed than anybody else to oppose HS2. How any government at a time of massive public deficit can seriously plan to spend such vast amounts of taxpayers' money on this crazy scheme defies belief.
