With reference to your article 'Parish ponders a car park plan' for Church Lane car park, Chalfont St Peter (Advertiser, October 30), I suggest that any promotion of the free one-hour parking there should include a notice that a parking ticket should be obtained from the machine and displayed for the free one-hour parking.
Chiltern District Council's (CDC) notice to this effect is wholly inadequate and I know that motorists have received penalty charge notices through not being aware that a display ticket for the one hour is required. The many notices asking 'Have you paid and displayed?' can suggest that a ticket is not required for the free hour.
Despite pointing out this anomaly and the obviously inadequate signs to CDC, nothing has been done, leading one to think that CDC is relying on the present system to boost car park income.
Chiltern's amendment order (no. 6) of October 23 published in your paper stated that the three-month season ticket for Church Lane will be £154.60, which is more expensive than three one-month tickets at £48.53. Enough said!
