Our honorary Poppy Appeal organisers are Anne Wainwight and Alan Armstrong.
Anne and Alan have a greater need than ever this year for additional helpers to raise more money for this very worthwhile cause. For instance, they always need new collectors to cover as many roads as possible in the house-to-house collection which, ultimately, determines the success of the whole campaign.
Inevitably, replacements are sought each year for those who, reluctantly, have had to give up collecting or assisting with the manifold administrative chores.
So, please, if you can help - even if only for an hour or two - contact either Anne or Alan directly by phone.
The arrangements for this year, with Remembrance Sunday falling on November 9 (two days before Armistice Day) are as follows.
The period for house-to-house collecting will run from Saturday, October 25 to Tuesday November 11. Street collecting will take place from Saturday, November 1 to Saturday, November 8.
Incidentally, you do not have to be a member of the Royal British Legion to participate but many such volunteers do subsequently become members.
Inflation is rearing its ugly head again and the economic situation is likely to get worse in the short term. This will affect pensioners - and that's most of us - worst of all.
The Royal British Legion is not immune to rising costs and falling income under these conditions. We must be visible on the streets to ensure that a very generous public locally will not be tempted to economise on the Poppy Appeal through lack of opportunity to donate.
For Chalfont St Peter, call Anne Wainwight on 01753 883 935, or for Chalfont St Giles, call Alan Armstrong on 01494 874 665.
