Looking for love, 1920s style

Holmer Green Players are performing the musical play The Boy Friend. The show was written by composer and lyricist Sandy Wilson in the 1950s but is a nostalgic, tongue-in-cheek, 1920's romp - definitely not to be taken too seriously!

This musical romance is set on the sun-kissed French Riviera, in Madame Dubonnet's Finishing School for well-bred young girls of rich parentage, where the young ladies are schooled in the finer arts of 'marrying well'. The debutants and their beaux take every opportunity to break into song and dance as

they search for their perfect partners.

Polly, an English heiress attending Mme. Dubonnet's Finishing School, falls in love with Tony, a delivery boy. Recalling her father's warning to beware fortune seekers, she poses as a working girl, unaware that Tony is in fact the missing son of the wealthy Lord Brockhurst. Things get complicated with the unexpected arrival in Nice of Polly's father and Lord and Lady Brockhurst Ð but not to worry, a happy ending is in store for all!

The evening features 18 performers singing and dancing numbers including 'I could be happy with you', 'The Boy Friend' and 'It's nicer Pierre, Bobby and Marcel support Maisie in a rehearsal for 'Safety in numbers' in Nice. What better night out during a rainy and cold November evening?

Tickets include the cost of a chicken & chip supper and are priced at £11 adults or £8 OAP/Under 16s. The show is performed on Friday 14, Saturday15, Thursday 20, Friday 21 and Saturday 22 November at 7.45pm in Holmer Green Village Centre, The Common, Holmer Green.

Tickets are available from the web site www.holmergreenplayers.co.uk or by phoning 07778 175616 or calling in person at Crendon House Estate Agents, Pond Approach, Holmer Green.
