Police to have an office at new Tesco site?

A NEW Police Office could be put in place in the car park of the Tesco store in Gerrards Cross when it is finished, in order to step up the police presence in the area.
The idea, put forward by resident Richard Calhoun, has been welcomed by Commander George Wrigley, who says that a similar scheme has already been initiated in Sainsbury’s car park in Taplow.

There is no police station in the village, with operations for both Gerrards Cross and Denham being conducted from offices in nearby Tatling End.
Mr Calhoun believes that a portacabin-sized office based in the car park of the supermarket, which is due to open in 2009, would be reassuring and helpful to residents of the town, whilst also being in a prime position to tackle any night time problems which occur.
He said: “Putting the office in Tesco’s car park would be in their interest and would increase their public standing if they were to agree to it.
“They have similar systems abroad and they seem to work well there, and so I think it would be a good idea to try it here.
“I think that people in Gerrards Cross would feel very reassured by having the police here in the town as opposed to a couple of miles away. It would solve a lot of problems if they were to be here.”
In response to the enquiry, neighbourhood inspector for South Bucks Mick Park said: “We welcome the idea and are on the look out for any sites which allow us to become more integrated with communities.
“The offices at Tatling End are not ideal because they are not really close enough and so a move into Gerrards Cross would be very good.
“If the site at Tesco became available we would be very interested in it, as we would with any site in the area.
“Hopefully it would make a real difference to residents.”
