A CHALFONT St Peter woman has leapt to the defence of the police after their latest performance review rated them as one of the worst in the country.
Thames Valley Police (TVP) was criticised for certain aspects of its performance in a national assessment of all police forces in the country released by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) earlier this month.
The resident, who does not wish to be named, had a run in with a gang of youths outside her home this month and was delighted with the response and approach of Thames Valley Police (TVP).
She said: “She said: “Just a week ago we were involved in an incident which we needed to call the police out for and they were absolutely fantastic.
“We were at home one evening when two cars pulled up outside our house and a gang of about eight men began to congregate outside. Typically, my husband decided to go outside and confront them and try and get them to move on and I stayed in the house and thought I would get some photographs in case anything happened.
“That is when they turned and they started trying to grab my camera and then they roared off in their car.
“The next day the police called me to see if I was okay because I was shaken up and they came and patrolled the area and told us if we had any problems to just call them.
“I was really scared and the police did a really great job of protecting us as vulnerable people and I would like to say a big thank you to them.”
The force’s levels of protecting vulnerable people, child protection, tackling crime, and implementating neighbourhood policing were rated as fair while its ability to identify local priorities was rated as poor.
