A NEW citizen card to encourage young people in Buckinghamshire to use public transport has been launched.
The card providing proof of age and discount bus travel is for 16 to 17 year olds.
The card has been made available to Year 11 pupils at all 37 of the county's secondary schools and allows young people to travel anywhere within the county after 9am for just £1 a journey.
Val Letheren, Buckinghamshire County Council's cabinet member for transportation, said: "This is a great way to give young people more independence and encourage them to establish good travelling practices for their future lives. By making bus travel affordable, I hope to reduce the number of cars on the roads at peak times, making life less stressful for everyone.
"This scheme has just launched and if it proves to be the success we hope for, we will be looking to broadening discount offers to include a variety of benefits."
Application forms are available from schools, or from www.buckscc.gov.uk/citizencard
