THE future of the girl guides in Beaconsfield is in danger after they missed out on invaluable Lottery funding.
The Beaconsfield guides, who have raised £62,000 towards repairing their dilapidated headquarters in Malthouse Square, lost out to fierce competition of 2,000 applicants for the £50m budget.
Eleanor Wilson, guide leader, said: “We have a thriving youth organisation, established almost 90 years ago and much needed to help maintain a cohesive community, fully supported by well-trained volunteers at no cost to the town.
“We meet in outdated and outmoded accomodation to which we already have to limit access to because of its frailty.
“We have a town bursting with enthusiasm and energy, with young and old wanting space to meet and learn everything from Pilates to cooking and nowhere suitable with space to accommodate them.”
The original HQ in Malthouse Sqaure was built in 1922, funded by donations from the local community, and the land was signed over to the guides in 1971 by Hall Barn Estate Ltd.
The Beaconsfield guides offer places for 200 girls in the rainbows, brownies, and guides and the groups are also desperately looking for more leaders to look after each age group.
Anyone who is able to help with fundraising, become a leader, or joing the New HQ fundraising committee, should call district commissioner Morag Mason on 01494 680354.
