Josh Radvan of Chalfont Otters Swimming Club has been selected for the GB team in the Biathlon World Championships in Monaco on September 30 following an impressive showing in the National Championships at Salford Quays.
The 15-year-old from Knotty Green just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth in the U17 boys’ event, the largest group and including the National Schools champion.
He was comfortably inside the qualifying standard after a fast-paced 1km run, a physical, jostling 200m swim in Salford Docks and an aggressive final 1km run.
Radvan has finished the modern pentathlon season as highest placed 15-year-old in Great Britain.
Again competing at U17 level, he took the silver medal in the UK and Ireland Modern Pentathlon National Championships – and claimed the best fencer award.
He scored an excellent 75% win ratio in a tough three-hour round robin epee event, gaining more than 1,000 event points. This moved him up to eighth from his 11th place following the 10 metre air pistol shoot.
He jumped to fourth thanks to an impressive 200m long course swim, third after finishing second in the 2K cross-country and second after a clear show jumping round in what was only his second horse riding competition.
