BUCKINGHAMSHIRE County Council has apologised for 'unsatisfactory' work by a contractor who repaired potholes, after a shopowner complained about the mess they left behind.
Following a particularly messy repair job by contractor Fitzpatrick on a pothole in Packhorse Road, Gerrards Cross, on Monday, August 20, director of The Brampton Partnership Peter Scott called the council to complain.
Excess tar had been sprayed against his office window, gravel had been left in the road, the edges of the pothole had been poorly filled and the pavement left uncleaned.
Days later, the pothole was again in need of repair after the tar was disturbed by a downpour.
He said: "I am outraged at the shoddy cowboy workmanship and even more annoyed at the mess left on the public highway, pavement and damage to the front of my offcie. Gravel and tar spots are everywhere.
"How, as rate and tax payers we are expected to accept this poor workmanship, is beyond belief.
"The problem is no doubt worsened by the lack of follow up, inspection and management by Highway inspectors.
"If they came here they would look at the job in disbelief.
"We shouldn't be charged for this.
In response, Buckinghamshire County Council's transport area co-ordinator for South Bucks, Chris Schwier, said: "We have been down there and yes, accept that the work is unsatisfactory.
"We can only apologise and say that we have called our contractor to re-visit this particular repair and tidy up the area.
"This was an emergency repair which was carried out at short notice but will be replaced with a permanent fix.
"Thank you to those concerned for bringing it to our attention."
