All In His Head: Sean O'Hare

Posted by Julie Voyce on August 1, 2007 7:44 PM

Sean%20O%27Hare%20.jpg

IF I could have asked George Best one question and barred him from hitting me or giving the answer "more drink", it would have been: How do you deal with post-lash depression, George? For there is nothing truer than the saying: What goes up must come down. Like a cowboy builder with a spirit level, I spent Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday trying to find that internal equilibrium after a particularly ruinous weekend. Drink is a great servant but a poor master, and not for the first time, I allowed it to call the shots. Come Sunday evening I knew only too well where I was heading.

With speeding identified as one of the major concerns for residents living within the Hundreds NAG's jurisdiction, officers took their speed gun to the roads on July 24 in an effort to remind drivers that they are working closely with the NAG to enforce its priorities.
Narcot Lane in Chalfont St Giles, Austenwood Lane in Chalfont St Peter, School Lane in Seer Green and Church Lane in Penn were all targeted by a team of three police officers and four PCSOs.

PLAYGROUNDS across the district are going to have hundreds of thousands of pounds ploughed into them.
Chiltern District Council was given £200,000 from The Big Lottery Fund to spend on playgrounds and a further £400,000 is expected to come from the county council, town and parish councils and Wycombe Leisure.
As well as refurbishing existing playgrounds, the money could be used to provide mobile play schemes that will visit more rural areas and support new playground projects in Prestwood and Chalfont St Giles.

Distraction burglary attempt in Hyde heath

Posted by Julie Voyce on August 2, 2007 10:49 AM

Police are appealing for information after an attempted distraction burglary in Hyde Heath on Thursday, July 26.
A 91-year-old woman was in her home in Weedon Hill when a man knocked on her ground floor bedroom window and then at the front door. The door was unlocked and the woman shouted for the man to come in. He said there was an imminent risk of flooding and that he had come to check the water pressure.
The man went into the kitchen on the pretext of checking the taps. He then left, telling her that he had to go and speak to neighbouring properties.
A carer came to the address later and found all the kitchen cupboards open although nothing had been taken.
The man is described as in his forties, around 5ft 9ins, stocky, with thinning brown hair, and clean shaven. He was said to be well-spoken.
If you have any information that could help police enquiries then please contact PC David Broomfield via the Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505.

A BUSINESSMAN has decided to put the derelict Deep Mill service station site up for sale with immediate effect.
The estate agency Stupples is handling the sale and offers in excess of £500,000 are now being invited for the 0.5 acres of land which formerly housed the Texaco filling station.
James Muirhead, the principal of Lombard Hotels, the company which has sought planning permission for the construction of a motel on site, said that reluctantly he had reached the end of the road.
He said that there had already been 90 inquiries about the site, although he had no intention of speculating about the future.

Herge's Adventures of Tintin

Posted by Julie Voyce on August 3, 2007 4:59 PM

By Henrietta Clancy

For two weeks only The Watford Palace is playing host to a truly inspirational stage adaptation of Herge's classic comic book, The Adventures of Tintin, and I advise you not to miss it. I must admit that prior to seeing this performance I was under the impression that it was very much a children's show; not so. Under Rufus Noris's visionary direction this popular tale of loyalty and friendship is as educational, magical and amusing for adults as is it for kids.

Dad's anger as girl thrown off bus

Posted by Julie Voyce on August 4, 2007 10:46 AM

by Greg Burns

AN OUTRAGED parent has threatened to take legal action to try and change Buckinghamshire County Council (BCC) policy after it saw his young daughter abandoned on the side of the road for not having her bus pass with her.
Richard Pomekrenke, of Camp Road, Gerrards Cross, was left panicking when his daughter Aneesha, 12, who goes to Beaconsfield High School, in Wattleton Road, was thrown off her school bus.
She was told that because she had forgotten her bus pass she was not allowed on and her friend was also ejected for trying to help which left both girls stranded at 8am on Friday, July 20, on the cross roads of Dukes Wood Drive and Fulmer Drive.

View From The House: Dominic Grieve

Posted by Julie Voyce on August 4, 2007 12:08 PM

Dominic Grieve, MP for Beaconsfield, writes:

THERE are some things which people seem either to love or to hate: reality TV shows, rice pudding, begonias, wheelie bins…
The collection of domestic, non-recyclable waste, once a fortnight, is something which has caused concern to individual constituents and which has been the subject of sustained media campaigns.
MPs on the Communities and Local Government Select Committee decided to scrutinise these concerns. After all, as they said in their final report, every household is entitled to a domestic waste collection and everyone has an opinion on how the collection should be carried out.

Food Review: The Black Horse Inn

Posted by Julie Voyce on August 5, 2007 10:14 AM

black%20horse.jp

by Martyn Pritchard

The Black Horse Inn, The Vale, Chesham. Telephone: 01494 784656. Website: www.Black-Horse-Inn.co.uk
Lunch served all week from noon-2.30pm. Dinner, Monday-Thursday, 6-9pm; Friday and Saturday, 6-9.30pm; Sunday 7-9pm.

CHIEF photographer Brian Jordan and I greeted Jan and Mick Goodchild when they took over at the Black Horse in November of last year.
We both felt they were a lovely couple and we promised to return for lunch – a promise made good on probably the most unpleasant of rainy days in July.
It has certainly pelted it down this July but there is always time for a good meal and Brian and I were soon comfortably sat at table with an extensive menu to ponder not to mention the dessert board.
The Black Horse is a real traditional pub which went downhill a bit, before Jan and Mick put a steady hand on the tiller.
Now the pub exudes feel good factor and the establishment is receiving tender loving care.
The Black Horse is all low beams, nooks and crannies – a nice interior, certainly, and now the menu is very much up to par.
