Cross fail to claim win

Kew 265-9
Gerrards Cross 263-9
(Match drawn)

THE Cross fell agonisingly three runs short of victory in a high scoring draw at Kew in the Sommers UK Home Counties Premier League Division Two on Saturday.
Cross skipper Jon Newell won the toss and asked Kew to bat. It seemed to be the correct decision when Jon Coles bowled Peter Unsworth with the first ball of the second over.
But Kew then took full control with Ali Jaffer (59), David Rowley (56), Kidron Thomas (57) and Rob Tindall (56) tearing the Cross bowlers apart.

With the Cross in danger of having to chase a target of more than 300, Newell brought himself back into the attack and the Kew batting crumbled immediately.
Newell took 5-14 in 27 balls as Kew lost six wickets for 36 runs including three wickets in three balls before declaring on 265-9.
Matt Eyles led the run chase with a commanding 93, and received good support from Owen Dawkins (30) and Steve Cooper (25).
At 176-3 after 33 overs, the Cross were well on course for victory. But Jaffer followed up his half-century with a five-wicket haul as the Cross middle order collapsed to 190-7 with 11 overs remaining.
Requiring 76 runs, Ben Ingrey (34) and Newell (23) stepped on the gas sharing a stand of 52 in six overs.
But both were dismissed in quick succession and the last two batsmen were unable to knock off the remaining runs.
Another brilliant spell of bowling by Ovais Yousuf
(6-23) set up a winning position for Beaconsfield over visitors Wokingham who were bowled out for 113.
But a huge thunderstorm ended the contest just after tea, with Beaconsfield on 45-3.
