Chenies & Latimer 145
Chalfont St Peter 146-6
(Chalfont won by four wickets)
CHALFONT St Peter strengthened their second place in Division Two B of the Thames Valley League on Saturday when they won by four wickets at Chenies who are now 14 points adrift at the foot of the table.
The Saints have pulled up to within three points of leaders Boyne Hill – who they host at the weekend.
Chalfont won the toss and elected to field.
However, once a couple of wickets fell, a collapse followed which eventually saw Chenies all out for 145. Only Stuart Bowen (37) and Steve Barton (49) scored any runs of note, with some of the middle/lower order throwing their wickets away.
Zamir Khan ended with figures of 5-5 off six overs including two maidens.
In reply Chalfont made a positive start despite some good bowling from Andy Chapman
(3-37) and Andy Wilde.
When the score had reached 65-4 the match could have gone either way but Khan steadied the ship with a rapid 36, including 20 off one over from Dave Brown.
Chalfont reached their target for the loss of six wickets with more than 23 overs to spare.
Gerrards Cross seconds' first win gave the club some consolation on a day when the 1st XI lost heavily to Thame.
A good bowling display provided the foundations for a convincing six-wicket success against Marlow Park.
Having won the toss, the Cross removed Park opener Buxton for nought, caught off the pacy Alistair Heald. Although Khan (51) battled hard, the experienced attack of Richard Thomas (2-60) and Nigel Bruce (2-27), kept Park to a below par score on their traditionally high scoring ground.
Only when opposing captain Salina joined Merry did Park construct a partnership of substance. Although they added 81 in 14 overs, Park only closed on 183-6.
At 42-0 after 10 overs in reply, the target seemed even more attainable. Ed Waugh (36) and George Eykyn (38) provided a solid platform, and Sonny Grover (52 n.o.) and Phil Sweeney (45 n.o.) came together to clinch the game, adding 84 in less than 13 overs.
