THE local elections in South Bucks were plunged into chaos last night as the new electronic counting system failed.
Some candidates were left standing around until 2am in the morning before being told to come back at 10am today to find out the results while the problem was solved.
SBDC had been chosen to pilot a number of new voting methods including the replacement of hand counting to electronic counting of votes.
Residents were also able to vote over the telephone, over the internet or by post.
South Bucks District Council spokesman said: “There was technical glitch with the assembly of the results and to avoid keeping people longer than necessary, the returning officer decided to postpone the result until 10am.
“We are pleased to report no problems with the postal or internet votes and as with any trial we will work with our supplier to solve any problems we encountered.”
