Breaking news: Bucks MPs release statement on schools

Bucks MPs welcome commitment on local grammar schools

Local MPs David Lidington, Cheryl Gillan, Dominic Grieve, Paul Goodman and John Bercow today welcomed the confirmation by Shadow Education Secretary David Willetts that a Conservative government would allow Buckinghamshire County Council to expand both grammar and upper school provision in the county to meet the needs of population growth.
The MPs said: “David Willetts' words to the BBC today repeat what he first said to us more than a year ago. Bucks will need many more primary and secondary school places to cope with the massive growth in population forecast for our county.
“Whether a local area has a selective system, as in Bucks, or a comprehensive system, as in most of England, education policy should aim to drive up every pupil's level of achievement. What matters most is the leadership of the head, the quality of classroom teaching, the way in which the curriculum is delivered, the discipline and pastoral care available, and we strongly support David Cameron's emphasis on these matters.”
