Beaconsfield fundraiser Alex Johnson yielded himself to the mercy of some hair clippers when he had his long locks shaved off for charity.
Alex, 16, a student at Dr Challoner’s Grammar School in Chesham Road, Amersham, braved the ordeal at Oxygen Hairdressers in Gregories Road, on March 30.
Hairdresser Gemma Whitelock, 23, wasted no time in cutting his shoulder length black hair down to an all over grade two crop.
He managed to raise £545 for Food for the Hungry, a charity which provides food, shelter, emergency health response, immunisation and assistance to separated, orphaned or unaccompanied children in 25 of the world’s poorest nations including Uganda, where he will visit in the summer with 14 other classmates.
Before the clippers were switched on Alex said: “I am quite scared but excited at the same time I guess.”
After his old hair lay on the floor around him he said: “It was not as bad as I thought and I feel a lot better than I did before I sat down."
