Revolution, Maxwell Road, Beaconsfield.
By Julie Voyce
LAST year saw Bar Med in Maxwell Road, Beaconsfield, transformed into a Revolution bar, famed for vodka cocktails. As well as being a place to go out drinking Revolution also offers food throughout the day and evening.
I went along with my boyfriend Dominic to sample what was on offer on a busy Friday night.
In March Revolution launched it's quest to find the most popular nation for vodka. Basically it has devised six different cocktails for six different nations. The one that sells the most will be crowned the winner.
We arrived for dinner at about 7.30pm and the place was already filling up.
The menu has a good selection of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and burgers etc which would make a good lunchtime choice, there are even a number of low carb options for those following diets such as The Atkins!
The main courses include New England crab salad, hot falafel salad, Revolution surf and turf as well as spaghetti arrabiata.
For my starter I chose king prawns which were lightly coated, deep fried and served with sweet chilli sauce.
For my main I liked the look of the Revolution beef goulash, described as beef slowly braised with Hungarian spices. Sadly for me lots of other people must have thought it looked tasty too as they didn't have any left. I decided to try the grilled tuna nicoise, a 6oz tuna steak served with mixed leaves with French beans, new potatoes, egg, tomatoes olives and capers.
Dominic went for the onion bhajis as his starter followed by an 8oz steak which came with grilled tomato, mushrooms, onion rings and fries.
My starter was lovely and I really liked the sweet chili sauce. It has more of a kick to it than some. I had just the right amount of prawns for a starter, but this would also make a good light lunch option.
Dominic said his bhajis were very nice, though he found the bowl they arrived in slightly odd as when you tried to cut anything it fell over!
My tuna was gorgeous. I liked the fact I could choose how it
