THE heavy goods vehicle (HGV) ban in Beaconsfield which has been the subject of recent wrangles has finally been given the go-ahead and will be implemented within months.
There had been previous discontent from Beaconsfield Town Council (BTC) over the ban, which has come as the result of a recent public consultation to determine exactly which roads of the town should be covered.
BTC felt that all the necessary roads were not included in that report, and there were even threats to send the whole plan back to public consultation to try and force Bucks County Council (BCC) to finish the job BTC felt was only half completed.
But at a town council meeting councillors voted to give the go-ahead for the partial ban.
It will now cover Holtspur Top Lane, Burkes Road, Candlemas Lane, Gregories Road and Ledborough Lane, and will see advisory signs warning lorry drivers that they will be entering an HGV-free zone in North Drive and Burgess Wood Road.
The hope is that the majority of HGVs will then be forced to go up the A355 Amersham Road, instead of using the more residential streets as shortcuts through the town as they currently do.
Town councillor Geoff Grover voted for the ban, but still has concerns that Cherry Tree Road, Wattleton Road and Burgess Wood Road may now become a short cut for lorry drivers to get onto Station Road.
