CARELESS car drivers in Beaconsfield are to be targeted as part of a new crackdown aimed at reducing the increased levels of antisocial parking in the town.
Local police officers and police community support officers (PCSOs), in partnership with the Beaconsfield Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG), will be focusing on the drivers who are choosing to park their cars over zebra crossings, on yellow lines, and on pavements. Drivers will notice a stricter patrolling presence with fixed penalties and fines being issued to anyone caught parking irresponsibly and illegally in the town.
Sergeant John Chatterton-Ross of Thames Valley Police and NAG said: “The biggest thing in my intray at the moment is problems with parking but it isn’t my PCSOs' role to become traffic wardens. In Beaconsfield the car is king and many of our citizens think that what they are doing is okay and as a result we have a lot of antisocial car parking, especially in the Old Town.
“The only way we will ever get around controlling the situation is with hard enforcement so that people will realise that it is an offence and the fine will be large even if you are wealthy.”
