Death of Jack Rickard

Posted by on February 22, 2007 4:40 PM

Submitted by: Matthew Stevenson, Secretary, Chalfont St. Peter Cricket Club.
It is with great sadness that I have to report that Jack Rickard, one of the stalwarts of the early days of Chalfont St. Peter Cricket Club, has died at his home in New Zealand, aged 98.

He first played for the club in the 1930s and can be seen in many of the old photographs, both on the club web site and in the county archive offices at Aylesbury, from the 1930s right up until the 1960s.

When he first joined the club, even though he was an outstanding player, he was not selected for the 1st XI because he did not come from the right social background. However, fortunately, times changed and he later not only became a regular player in the 1st XI but also club captain and president. In the 1970s he retired to Devon where he lived in a cottage overlooking Brixham harbour and he later emigrated to New Zealand.
