FORMER Wycombe defender Terry Skiverton hopes his old club can survive in League One this season after leading his Yeovil side to a resounding victory at Adams Park.
The 34-year-old Glovers chief masterminded a resounding 4-1 victory on Saturday to go with a 4-0 thumping of his old side at Huish Park on Boxing Day which moved Yeovil up to 14th table.
He was brought to Wanderers on loan from Chelsea as a fresh faced 19-year-old centre-back in 1996 by Martin O'Neill but was played out of position during his ten games for the club.
Skiverton returned to Chelsea after O'Neill left the club but was brought back on a permanent deal by new boss Alan Smith in the summer.
But he never managed to cement a regular first-team place making 10 appearances in the 1996/97 season before further managerial turmoil saw John Gregory appointed as Wycombe boss and Skivertson shipped out to non-league Welling United.
It was a difficult time in the career of the Glovers boss but after his side heaped more misery on Wanderers he was still hoping they can avoid the drop back down to League Two.
He said: “I had a time here where I didn't really progress as a footballer but everyone behind the scenes at Wycombe were fantastic and there are some real good characters and peope that I still speak to like old players Steve Brown and Matt Crossley.
“I hope both teams can stay up this season and we can battle out together next season in League One.
“In our game against Boxing Day against Wycombe our goalkeeper got man-of-the-match so that tells a story. I felt that early on on Saturday they had a few chances.
“When it went to 1-1 both teams sat off a little bit and it was the timing of our goals which were crucial.”
